The Mill School Mission
The Mill School is built on the belief that high-quality early education and child care are vital for our community. Our core values are respect, inclusiveness, safety, and fun.

Our mission is simple but powerful: to pay our teachers well while keeping care affordable and inclusive for all families.

Our Commitment to Inclusion
The Mill School welcomes and accommodates all children ages 6 weeks through 5 years. We do not discriminate—or tolerate discrimination—on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity.

Because food allergies are recognized as disabilities under the ADA, we take them very seriously. We actively accommodate children with food allergies and prioritize creating a safe space where every child can thrive. If your child needs special care, please contact us so we can work together to support them. At The Mill School, your child will always feel respected, included, and safe—and of course, they’ll have a ton of fun!

Our Approach to Learning
We believe children learn best through play. Our play-based education encourages exploration, creativity, and independence. We also believe nature is one of the best classrooms, which is why we spend time outdoors every day, rain or shine.

Our Teachers Matter
The individuals who care for our children are at the heart of our mission. Teachers deserve to earn a livable wage. According to Let’s Grow Kids, the median pay for Vermont child care teachers is $39,315 per year (about $16.80 per hour, without benefits). At The Mill School, all teachers are paid at least $20 per hour—higher than other local centers—because we are committed to valuing their work. When teachers feel supported, both financially and emotionally, they bring joy, energy, and dedication to the children they teach.

Affordability & Financial Aid
We know families are in different financial positions. In addition to state child care financial assistance, we dedicate a portion of our nonprofit donations toward a financial aid program that helps bridge the gap between state subsidies and our tuition rates. We are committed to maintaining an enrollment where at least 20% of children come from families at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).
